Flue gas probes

General Information

Zirox flue gas probes are rugged sensors, which serve for λ-Determination in power and heat plants as well as for Measurement of oxygen partial pressure of furnace atmospheres. The probes are calibration, drift- and maintenance-free. At measurements in reducing atmospheres no falsification of gas composition occurs by measuring gas cooling in a suction line. The working temperature will be ensured by integrated heater. The using of high quality components and materials guarantees a high long term stability.

High temperature probes

General Information

The ZIROX® high temperature probe KS20 has been developed especially for using under extrem temperature conditions up to 1450 °C. With the KS20 the logging of the oxygen partial pressure direct in the burning chamber is possible.
The KS20 is calibration, drift- and maintenance-free. At measurements in reducing atmospheres no falsification of gas composition occurs by measuring gas cooling in a suction line. The using of high quality components and materials guarantees a high long term stability. If the fuel gas composition is known it is possible to calculate the air factor λ, the CO-, CO2-, H2- and the H2O- concentration. This values can be given out by external electronic units (e.g. ZIROX® electronic unit E2000).
The KS20 serves for process control and combustion optimisation (TÜV-Approval according to "TA Luft, 13. und 17. BImSchV") in power and heat plants as well as in incineration plants. It is also part of control for oxidising and reducing furnace gases in the ceramic industry.

Miniature probes

General Information

Potentiometric oxygen probes, which have been developed for the exhaust gas measurements in motor vehicles (λ-probes), will be frequently used in industrial equipments. According to the construction these probes have any disadvantages: because of the uncontrolled heating (steady working voltage) and ceramic cover films of the electrodes (which promote the diffusion of special gas components) important measuring errors can result. The SS27 with controlled heating and integrated primarily electronic has a great accuracy at comparatively lower costs. The main part is the approved ZIROX potentiometric zirconia based solid electrolyte cell (drift-, calibration- and maintenance-free). The using of high quality components and materials guarantees a high long term stability.

The signals of ZIROX® probes will be recorded with the E2000, processed to the oxygen concentration (normally in Vol.-%) according to the NERNST equation and given out by standard interfaces.
The electronic unit E2000 supplies the probe with reference air via internal pump. Additionally the E2000 realises the power supply and the heating control for heated ZIROX® probes.
Furthermore the probes will be monitored by the E2000 via cyclic measurements of the cell resistance. An error message will given out as necessary.
The user can program two limit values (output via relay).

In incomplete burned gases (reducing conditions) more values can be calculated (air factor , dew point, H2O/H2-Ratio, CO2/CO-Ratio, c(CO2) and c(H2O) in the water gas equilibrium. Precondition: known fuel gas composition, e.g. C/H-Ratio

If requested the E2000 can be delivered with auto calibration function.

O2-Probes for vacuum processes

General Information

Main part of the ZIROX® vacuum probe is a potentiometric zirconia solid electrolyte cell. Due to the several oxygen partial pressure (inside and outside the vacuum recipient) a voltage occurs between measuring and reference electrode. This voltage is proportional to the logarithm of the oxygen partial pressures. From the cell voltage the oxygen partial pressure at measuring electrode can be calculated according to the NERNST equation.

The connection head contains the electronic for heating control and signal processing and the membrane pump fort he reference gas supply.

Attention:

In contrast to the ZIROX® normal pressure probes the vacuum probe is not calibration free. The reason are the special sensor heating (inside the probe tube) and several conditions at the measuring electrode (energy removal depends on gas pressure and thermal conductivity). Therefore isothermal electrodes, necessary for the correct using of the NERNST equation can not be realized. But for a process control the using of empiric determined values is mostly enough. For the measurement of oxygen partial pressures the probe must be calibrated by user (test measurements).

Application

The ZIROX® vacuum probe serves for the determination of oxygen partial pressures in low pressure equipments. Typical examples are measurements in vacuum processes (PVD, CVD or other plasma processes), in surface treatment applications as well for measurements for material-scientific investigations.

High-Precision Oxygen measuring Device SGM5

General Information

The compact high-precision measuring device SGM5T contains the approved calibration- and drift-free ZIROX® zirconia measuring cell as well the process electronic (for cell heating control, flow monitoring, cell signal processing, calculations and signal output, e.g. oxygen concentration, air factor , redox-quotient or H2O/H2-Ratio) A microprocessor changes the cell signal to the oxygen concentration according the NERNST equation. The value will be shown at the display and output as analog current signal (Option: digital interface RS232, software for measuring value recording and storage is deliverable) Additionally the electronic can process and output the signals of a further, optional integrable sensor (e.g. CO2-, humidity- or pressure sensor with standard interface).

In the SGM5 the measuring cell will be monitored simultaneously. In the case of error a alarm signal will be generated.

Applications

In many technological processes under protective or inert gases oxygen traces are nonconstructively for the product properties. Precondition for detection and prevention of problems is the fast and precious measurement of oxygen respectively the determination of the reducing force of inert gases. By progressive introduction of quality assurance systems, e.g. according to ISO 9000, a constant monitoring and documentation of quality parameters becomes more important. For it with the SGM5T the user get several possibilities for process optimization (soldering and welding processes, heat treatment of metallic surfaces, microelectronic production, food packing technology). For the monitoring of reducing gases further parameters (redox-quotient, air factor , H2O/H2-Ratio or CO2/CO-Ratio) can be calculated by special mathematical methods.

SGM7

General Information

For an optimal quality and process protection the avoidance of oxygen, also as traces, is necessary in many technological applications. Not least by progressive introduction of quality assurance systems, e.g. according to ISO 9000, a constant monitoring and documentation of quality parameters becomes more important.

The compact oxygen measuring device SGM7 is based on the approved, drift-, calibration- and maintenance-free ZIROX® zirconia technique. It contains the measuring cell as well the electronic for cell heating control, flow monitoring, integrated pump and signal processing. Via microprocessor the measuring cell signal will be processed according to the NERNST equation. The requested value will be given out by display and analog current signal. (Option: digital interface RS232 with software).

In the SGM7 the measuring cell will be monitored simultaneously. In the case of error a alarm signal will be generated.

CO2-Sensor with Transmitter

General Information

The ZIROX® CO2-Sensor is a combination of solid electrolyte sensor and signal transmitter. The measuring principle based on a voltage measurement at galvanic solid electrolyte cells. The necessary cell temperature of 600 °C will be realized by an internal electrical heating. The sensor can be used indoor and outdoor. An internal pump carries the measuring gas to the sensor (the pump is adjustable via software). The range end mark will be adjusted as requested (1000 Vol.-ppm … 20 Vol.-%).

If requested a LCD can be mounted.

Oxygen Measuring Module ZR5

General Information

Elektrolysis (Test gas generator)

General Information

The electrolysis device SGM5EL based on the approved zirconia solid electrolyte technology. It serves for the convenient dosing or removal of oxygen from protective gases (N2, Ar) or reactive gas flows (e.g. inert gas N2/H2) whether to produce gases with defined oxygen concentration or gases with a requested reduction force.
The SGM5EL is a combination of a complex cell module with a control unit. Main parts of the cell module are an electrolysis cell and a potentiometric measuring cell. The potentiometric cell admits an exact measurement of the oxygen concentration adjusted by electrolysis cell. The necessary cell temperature will be guaranteed by an electrical heating.
Beside the using as test gas generator the SGM5EL can be used for the solid electrolyte coulometrie. In this case the cell voltage of the potentiometric cell will be hold constant as set point of a control circuit. The resulting current of the electrolysis cell is proportional to the oxygen transposition with the gas flow. Over the current-time-integral the substituted among of oxygen can be determined quantitatively.


For the oxygen pump performance (volume flow of transported oxygen at 25 °C and normal pressure) following equation applies: V(O2) / t = 0,06339 · I cm3 / A s = 0,2282 ·I l / A h
