KVM Switches
The KVM switches are used to operate 2 - 256 computers via one or two concurrent workstations. The switches are always stand-alone devices. Only the ControlCenter 1 range offers an extra workstation module in addition to the changeover switch.
The KVM switches switch the following signals:
- digital video / analog video
- keyboard/mouse PS/2 and USB
- transparent USB 2.0
- and audio
Depending on the product and application, various signals are combined - from one switch exclusively for keyboard/mouse and audio through to a multi-channel video switch which switches 4 x digital/analog video, keyboard/mouse, USB 2.0 and audio per computer.
A further differentiating feature is the number of computers which can be connected. G&D provides products for 2, 4, 8 or 16 computers in this product group.

KVM Sharing
UserCenter 2/4
Operate a common-use computer via the UserCenter from G&D. Up to 4 consoles can access the computers and alternately operate it. An intelligent management system handles the access to it. The UserCenter is available for 2 or 4 consoles.
DualUserCenter 2/4
By means of the DualUserCenter you have the possibility of connecting up to 2 monitors per console. The DualUserCenter is available for 2 or 4 consoles.
KVM Converters
The KVM converters from G&D, with their versatile possibilities, ensure that you can consolidate signal conversion between heterogeneous computer systems and diverse peripheral devices by means of a G&D switching system.
The KVM signals can be converted accordingly on both the CPU side as well as on the console side.
CPU-side converter
-
- Connection of a Sun server with 8-pin mini-DIN keyboard/mouse
- Integration of a serial device (VT100) into a KVM system
Console-side converter
-
- Operation of x86 systems with a Sun keyboard
- Integration of a special keyboard - such as a REUTERS - into a KVM installation
Video converter
-
- Consolidation of diverse video formats in one KVM system from G&D
- Compensation for delay differences of a VGA signal via CAT cable
KVM Add-on
Description
The KVM Add-On group represents "value-added products", for all the other KVM product groups.
The following KVM Add-On products are available
DevCon Center
The DevCon-Center forms part of the group KVM ADD-On. It serves as central appliance for monitoring the status of networkable G&D devices of different product groups.

The HK Controller makes possible the transfer of up to a maximum of 10 hot key sequences (for switching between computers, for instance) to any G&D device.
RackConsole 17
The TFT-Key Drawer combines a high-quality display with a compact keyboard, including touchpad, in a compact chassis, which measures only one height module.
Video
In the area of video you can actively multiply (on up to 8 monitors) signals with G&D products or, for example, double and strengthen a signal for a beamer.
This way distances of up to 110 metres can be bridged.
DVISplitter2/4

HardBoot
Description
The HardBoot is a remote power switch. It makes it possible to switch on and off remotely separated target devices such as servers, routers and hubs.
The HardBoot master can switch the power supplies for up to 8 target devices. The number of switchable ports is increased to 40 through the cascading of the HardBoot master with up to 4 slaves.
With two independent, redundant power circuits, and the possibility of combining up to three powerports into a group and then switching these together, this system is ideal for "mission critical" servers with redundantly configured power supplies.
Features
- Individual control of up to 40 powerports via one IP
- Individual restarting of no longer accessible target devices
- Automatic restarting of the target devices after a preset time period
- Access via Ethernet with HB view toolware, or
- Serial access via HyperTerminal or OSD (in conjunction with a G&D KVM-Switch)
- Password protected access
- Standby LEDs
- 2 separately secured power circuits; galvanically separated
- Up to 120 A peak power per device is possible
- Up to 10 A steady-state load is possible
- HiAmp technology for problem-free switching on of target devices with high peak power
- Group functionality for optimum handling
- Free assignability of target device names
- High package density of just one 1 U
Deployment scenarios
The HardBoot application can be flexibly used with or without the master device:
-
- Deployment as a stand-alone
The master is connected to the network by means of an IP address. Hence, the control is handled via Ethernet. In case of cascading, the slaves are connected as with a bus.
Installation
The target devices are connected by a standard electrical power cable with the HardBoot. After a successful initial installation by means of a terminal program, the HardBoot master is then connected to the network via the link interface.
Using the toolware HardBoot view, you then have immediate access to all necessary settings and can already work with the system. When in operation with a KVM switch, you connect the first slave with the serial connection of the KVM switch.
Redundancy
Every HardBoot works with two independent power circuits (phases) which are galvanically separated.
This is an important function for "mission critical" servers, as with this up to three power sources can be assigned cross-phase to a server. In case of failure of a power source, the supply of power to the target device remains assured through the redundancy.
Of course, the independent power circuits can be switched together, enabling a defined switching of the server. Up to 3 power sources can be combined in a group and switched together.
