THERMOCOAX Heating elements
Resistance heating is one of the first applications of electricity..
In the course of a century, thousands of heating problems have been solved ranging from megawatts down to a few watts, or less.
The fundamentals are always the same, the requirements and solutions widely different.
Between a large furnace constructed as an individual unit and a domestic heater produced in large quantities, there exist a number of cases where no “ready-made” solution is available.
For such cases, THERMOCOAX often presents a suitable answer to:
-
Heating from the cryogenic temperatures up to
>1000°C.
-
Heat dissipation either very low or very high power (from few watts to several tens of kilowatts).
-
For use in air, under vacuum or high pressure and in any corrosive environment compatible with the sheath material.
-
In applications requiring high reliability components.
Easy fitting
Electrical screening
Tight bending radius
Small dimensions
Excellent heat exchange

Temperature sensors
The measurement of temperature is a very important element in many parts of research and industry.
A well-known and proven method in temperature measurement is the use of thermocouples.
Accurate and fast measurements, easy mounting, simple utilisation and interchangeability as well as low-cost production are the reasons for the widespread applications of the thermocouples.
They are resistant to heat and pressure and relatively insensitive to parasites.
Specific technical requirements like within nuclear reactors, in space research or in medical fields led to the development of sheathed thermocouples of small dimensions, high insulation resistance and high resistance to aggressive media.
All this is being fulfilled by miniature sheathed thermocouples.
THERMOCOAX offers the best possible solutions to temperature measurement. Many sensors are standard off-the-shelf designs, but many others are especially designed and manufactured to customer requirements, within a wide range of specifications or even developed in partnership with our customers.
-
Small overall dimensions and high flexibility enable temperature measurement in locations with poor accessibility.
-
High mechanical strength.
-
Protection of the thermoelectric wires against oxidation, corrosion and chemical pollution.
Accurate measurement
- Short response time: as an example, the intrinsic response time of a 0.25 OD mm THERMOCOAX thermocouple is 7 ms, the actual response in high velocity air is then 0.1 s. This very fast response time allows measurement of very short temperature variations.
Easy fitting
- The continuous metallic sheath ensures a mechanical and chemical protection of the couple and THERMOCOAX thermocouples can be attached directly to metal parts
Tight bending radius
- Only 3 times the outer diameter
Small dimensions
- Down to 0.25 mm OD, the THERMOCOAX thermocouples can be inserted in any tiny equipment

ATEX Temperature sensors
The thermocoupes and RTDs range covers Ex Zones 0 to 2 and 20 to 22.
The same technical properties as for the standard thermocouple range apply for these sensors. Only the fitting and some used components are adapted to the ATEX requirements. Technical details are available in the document SE900R009
ATEX heating
The Relevant Protection Principle for THERMOCOAX heaters are:
-
Zone 1 and 2: flameproof enclosure marking "EEX d" in accordance with EN 50018.
The heaters properties are those of the standard range. Details are given in the heating product range.
ATEX Questionnaire
As for any product intended for potentially explosive atmospheres, a dedicated questionnaire has to be filled out prior order execution.
Please download the form: ATEX questionnaire.pdf and fill it out directly. Once completed, print it, add your company stamp and signature and post it to our sales department.

THERMOCOAX manufactures the VIBRACOAX piezoelectric axle sensor since the mid 1970s. The sensor is used in data collection applications. The sensor is highly accurate and reliable with tremendous longevity and generally outlives the pavement in which it is installed.
NEUTROCOAX® neutron detectors by SPND
The NEUTROCOAX SPND is a neutron absorber material called emitter, insulated from the sheath or collector by alumina or magnesia insulator in a coaxial geometry.
The SPND is connected to an amplifier by a single lead or twin lead THERMOCOAX coaxial cable capable of correcting the spurious current due to the irradiation of the cable.
The THERMOCOAX SPND can be used in all types of reactors for in-core measurement of thermal neutron flux for:
- good knowledge of the neutron flux distribution
- monitoring the energy conversion in the reactors
- a better control of the safety criteria.
Applications:
- accurate monitoring of thermal neutron flux,
- in irradiation experiments or instrumentation
